What to expect

Eight steps. No surprises.

Most people have never had a professional carpet cleaner in their home, or they had one bad experience and want to know what'll be different this time. Here's the full process — every step, how long it takes, and what you actually have to do.

Zep crew setup on a real Bergen County NJ job — gray sectional living room with coiled blue hot-water extraction hose ready, Home Depot bucket of pre-treat solutions
  1. 01

    5 minutes

    You call or text

Real person on the line in business hours, voicemail outside (we return within an hour). Tell us the rooms and any issues — pets, stains, fabric type. Or just snap photos and text them.

Your part: Have rough dimensions or take a quick photo of each room.

  2. 02

    10–15 minutes

    We walk through your home

Inspect every room together. Identify traffic lanes, pet spots, fiber type, any permanent stains we want to flag before we start. We photograph the existing condition with your permission for our records.

Your part: Be honest about pets, spills, and past cleaning attempts. We're not judging — we just need the info.

  3. 03

    5 minutes

Written quote — you approve before we plug anything in

Itemized quote covering rooms, stairs, hallways, pet treatment, protector — whatever applies. No surprise upcharges at the door. Sign on phone or paper. $140 minimum service charge always applies.

Your part: Read it. Ask anything. Approve.

  4. 04

    10 minutes

We set up — protect everything we touch

Corner guards on doorways, shoe covers indoors, plastic blocks or tabs under furniture that goes back on damp carpet. The truck mount stays outside; we run a hose in (you'll feel a slight draft from the door).

Your part: Tell us if any room or item should be skipped.

  5. 05

    15–20 minutes

    Pre-treat

Fiber-appropriate pre-spray on the whole area, plus targeted spotter chemistry on stains. Dwell time: 5–10 minutes. For pet spots, we use a UV light first to find every contaminated zone.

Your part: Stay in another room or step out — the chemistry is safe but the smell is sharper during pre-treat.

  6. 06

    30–90 minutes

    Extract

Truck-mounted hot-water extraction: high-temp solution sprays into the pile and immediately gets pulled back out with high-vacuum extraction. Multiple passes on heavy traffic lanes. pH-balanced rinse pass after.

Your part: Nothing. Maybe make a cup of coffee.

  7. 07

    10 minutes

Finish — air movers if needed, walk-through with you

We groom the nap in one direction (V-pattern marks visible for a few hours). If a room is wetter than expected, we leave air movers running. Walk-through with you before we pack up — every spot we treated, you see.

Your part: Walk through, ask questions, point out anything that still concerns you.

  8. 08

    Day after

    We follow up

Text from Dan the next morning to confirm everything dried evenly and you're happy. If anything's off — sticky feel, lingering smell, a spot reappearing — we come back at no charge.

Your part: Tell us honestly. We'd rather come back than have you tell a neighbor we didn't.
